It's slightly better than a magic shortbow with rune arrows, and obtaining it for ironmen isn't too difficult (ammo included, there's an NPC shop). Karil's crossbow is also great because you often you don't need to bother with wearing Ava's Accumulator because often the +4 range bonus isn't enough to warrant bring an extra item switch at G.Guardians and Demonics. Also good for ranging wyrms and is much better than killing them with a D scimmy. Can even wear MA2 for extra magic defence.
